Basis for funding under Save Posidonia Project
The Save Posidonia Project, a pioneer programme in the western Mediterranean, reflects the Formentera Council's commitment to the local environment and to 2017's promise as “year of sustainable tourism for development”. The project has two pillars: raising money, from individuals or organisations, to safeguard meadows of posidonia oceanica seagrass on Formentera and across the Balearics, and advocating a culture of shared responsibility in protecting the environment.
In order to be given funding, a project must focus on posidonia oceanica conservation and protection and have basis in science, environmental stewardship or outreach. Timeframes will depend on the nature of each project. Science and stewardship programmes will last no more than three years; outreach campaigns must be limited to one.
Until 1 November 2017, 100% of the money raised by Save Posidonia Project will go to fund selected projects. Per project, a maximum of €200,000 will be awarded.
Projects will be graded on a 100-point scale based a project's fulfilment of qualifying conditions.
The period of project submissions will begin once fundraising has concluded. Both the deadline on proposals and specific information on the adjudication process will be announced at that time. At the end of selection, projects will be ranked based on their score on the 100-point scale.
The call for submissions is open to associations, private not-for-profit groups, NGOs, foundations, merchants' organisations, public research entities, universities, public law corporations and conservationist groups.
Project proposals will be evaluated and winners determined by a committee of specialists that includes officials of Formentera Council and Govern Balear, field specialists, environment NGOs, a university professor, two members of the scientific community, the spokesperson of a diving group, fishermen, representatives of the nautical industry and members of civil society.
